A bike for my doc

My doctor is an awesome guy who loves bikes and has some die cast bikes displayed on a shelf at his practice. I decided to make a plastic model for him as a gift.

Because he really likes the chopper/cruiser style of bike, I decided on Tamiya's 1100 Virago.

The build went as smoothly as one would expect of a Tamiya build and I was very pleased to get a nice shine on the tank (remember: I don't usually do shiny).

I had something dramatic in mind for the final display, so printed a few options and placed them behind the bike to see which visual effect jumped out at me.

There was a clear winner. I made a road using 80 grit sandpaper, dowel rods for the railing, applied white glue where the asphalt ends and sprinkled some playpen sand over.

Because I knew that this model would be placed on a shelf, I made an acrylic display box.

The result can be seen on the right below.

To say that Doc was surprised by my gift, would be an understatement. He immediately made space om his already crowded shelf and put the Virago in the centre for all to see.
