Completed December 2018
When I initially started this built (comprising of two separate kits), it was made to be part of a bigger junk yard diorama (massive in fact) in scale 1/35th. Now you understand why I build my bases first. Maybe one day, I’ll still get to building that junkyard diorama…….
I used Tamiya’s “German 3ton 4x2 Cargo Truck” and the “Simca 5 Staff Car (German Army)”. Both were lovely kits to build - for the non-discerning builder, each being easily only a weekend’s build.
I started with the truck......
Putting it together......
All in all, a satisfying build.
Considering that this was my first try to make grey plastic look like wood, I am quite pleased at how it turned out.
I applied a basecoat of Tamiya XF60 (dark yellow), followed by
various shades of darker browns, airbrushed randomly and with varying densities.
Regrettably, I did not take any pics of the truck after I had assembled the above.
On with the Simca, which I found to be more challenging to paint than to build.
In line with my adopted mantra of "Build in like new, then mess it up.....", at this stage, I added the dust by light airbrushing and adding somestreak effects using heavily thinned oils.
